Kids, kites, food and fun.
All the ingredients for another successful kite-flying day in Africatown. The second annual event brings together scores of children from the community and those who come to assist in the construction and flying of kites.
Anderson Flen, president of the Mobile County Training School Alumni Association, said there is a method to the madness in the event. In other cities, big executives, entrepreneurs and other people with influence take part in kite-flying festivals. He hopes to expand the fun from Africatown to other parts of Mobile and surrounding areas in future events.
Meanwhile, members of the U.S. Navy clean-up crew led by Chief Navy Instructor Jason Lewis pitched in to assist with kite construction with the children. Meanwhile, ladies from MEJAC, CHESS and other supporters helped in the kitchen.
