AFRICATOWN’s School Alumni Association receives $200,000 in Funds to Preserve its History

The Mobile County Training School Heritage Space and Archives is the next phase in a standing collaboration of Africatown affiliated groups, in collaboration with current students and alumni of the former Rosenwald school site. The project combines archival and archeological projects with current middle school and university students into the creation of a Community Heritage Center.

The space at MCTS currently known as “The Den” will be completely renovated and organized in a way that will completely tell the Mobile County Training School’s history from 1880 to today.

Members of The Mobile County Training School Alumni Association are part of the team to manage funds coming from The Monument Lab Project and Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood to tell the story of the school and it’s relationship with the Historic Africatown Community.  Team members include: MCTS Alumni Anderson
Flen, Barbara House & Bill Green, Principal James Patterson and Archeologists Alexandra Jones, David Messenger and Amber N. Mitchell.
