AFRICATOWN
Heritage House Museum 2025 Cultural Fest continues to grow

Led by Montgomery’s Equal Justice Initiative Legacy Museum (The Lynching Museum) and Birmingham’s Civil Rights Institute, Cultural Heritage Tourism has become the number one form of tourism in the State of Alabama today. Making a bid to become a third leg in Alabama’s Cultural Heritage Tourism is The AFRICATOWN Cultural Heritage Tour Experience.
The Africatown Heritage House Museum opened it’s doors two years ago to tell the story of The Voyage of The Clotilda, America’s last slave ship, and the faith of the 110 enslaved Africans it brought to America via The Trans-
Atlantic Slave Trade Route. Since it’s opening two years ago, it has expanded it’s mission to hosting events such as the annual Africatown Cultural Fest. This year, over 1,400 tourist signed the visitors log as they took the tour in the Africatown Heritage House during the one day event held July 26, 2025. That number of more than 1,400 tourist plus Africatown’s normal crowd of more than 500 people that will attend any Africatown event means that more than 2,000 people attended this years Cultural Fest in Africatown. In addition to touring the Africatown Heritage House Museum things to do included a guided tour of the 20 Africatown Tourist Sites, A swing out dance class, a presentation of hand made quilts, a libation ceremony, Artwork & Vendors and performances by The Africatown Drummers, The Magnolia Breeze Youth Ensemble and performances by The Eklektik Band.
Other events creative by Africatown natives and supporters drawing National & International Attention include:
-The Africatown Festival of Arts & Culture sponsored by The All Things Africatown Non-Profit Organization Held during Black History Month – This is a 2 day event
– The Reenactment of The Clotilda Landing Event sponsored by The Clotilda Descendants Association Non-Profit held around July 8th each year – This is a 2 day event
One of the goals of The Africatown Collectives, a collection of all Africatown Non-Profits, is to create an environment where all Africatown Events thrive on an annual basis thus contributing to all efforts to sustain Africatown and its historical significance.
